Something that is relatively important to me throughout the summer months is being tan. I am naturally a very white person who burns easily, so the best option to achieve that golden glow is to get a spray tan.
I'm very fortunate that one of my close friends runs her own spray tanning business from home and at $15 a pop its very affordable to achieve that golden glow.
The product that my friend uses in her tan is called Black Magic - 8 hour developing tan. Black Magic also have a rapid tan which develops in only two hours. I have only ever used the 8 hour tan and it works beautifully.
So my tips to keeping your tan looking fresh for as long as possible are :
Prep Beforehand
Make sure you exfoliate your entire body the evening before your tan. I used my frank body scrub and an exfoliator on my face to work up a good scrub. Focus on areas such as elbows and ankles, that get incredibly dry and rough.
Hair removal
Any shaving or hair removal also needs to be done the night before your tan. Once you have your spray tan on you won't be able to shave your legs or anything. If you do take the risk, that tan will come straight off.
Wait 8 hours before washing
With this particular tan it stops developing after 8 hours, although you are able to wash it off after 5. I like to let it develop to the darkest it can go so that it can gradually fade. In this photo it is fully developed and I have just had my first shower :

No Deodorant or Moisturiser on the day
When you arrive for your spray tan make sure you have no deodorant or moisturiser on anywhere. It will not hold the tan at all and you will be left with it very patchy.
Moisturise!
If you want to keep your tan looking even and fresh then you need to moisturise. Focus particularly on those dry area's again such as elbows and knees.

Normally I would only expect a spray tan to stay looking even and fresh for 24-48 hours but have been pleasantly surprised and how long you can keep a tan if you look after it!

I never have had a spray tan - always been too nervous I'll end up looking orange. One day I'll brave it! Yours looks so nice and natural.
ReplyDeleteHaha it is daunting. I was more nervous about being naked in front of a friend. Thanks, I like it. But I like the colour after 4 days. At first my face does look quite dark and 'dirty' but it lightens after the first shower! x
