5 Ways To Simplify Christmas And Embrace Joy This Year

Christmas.

It's undoubtedly the most wonderful time of the year.

But for a lot of people it brings a lot of stress. Financial, emotional, and mental stress. It stirrs up sensitive memories that people would much rather forget.

But it doesn't have to be like that.

When you think about your Christmas' growing up what is it that you remember? For me I would describe them as m a g i c. They were a magical time and not because of the things. Not because of the things we received but for the people that were there. Everyone together and the 'world champs' were playing in cricket and petanque.

If you are stressing about Christmas then it's time to take on some of these tips and s i m p l i f y  your Christmas season. I can guarantee that you will increase the joy by letting go of the 'things' that are weighing you down.

🎄 De clutter the decorations
De cluttering the decorations is one of the easiest ways to feel lighter. Every year put in the bin decorations that are broken, cracked or just missing pieces. By keeping to the one box rule you will be able to find everything a lot easier the next year and know exactly what your putting on your tree.

🎄 Stick to your christmas budget
It is so easy to get carried away with the hype and marketing around Christmas. Gift's don't need to be expensive and if you have young kids then get them to be creative. Try having your kids decorate mug's for family members, make calender's, print off Santa photo's of the kids or even just bake some fudge and wrap in cellophane. These are gift's which don't need to put you into debt just to show your family you care.

🎄 Clean out your kids toys before the big day

Take a dive into the bottom of your child's toy box one day in the lead up to Christmas. Be brave, I know you never know what you will find at the bottom of the toy box! Grab all the toys they haven't played with in the last few months even though they will tell you that 'that's my favourite toy! don't throw that out!' and get rid of it. Best to do this when your kid isn't around or you will have a battle on your hands!

🎄 Give experiences

Some of the best gifts we have received have been 'things to do.' Having kids means its expensive to do anything but by asking for passes to things like the zoo, aquarium or adventure park is one way to ensure you all bond doing things as a family and create beautiful memories.

🎄 It's the little things that count - so don't sweat the big stuff.
Doing something little each day is going to bring you the most happiness of all. Read bedtime stories next to the Christmas tree each night instead of in bed. Have gingerbread men for dessert outside in the sunshine. Dance around the living room every morning to Michael Buble's Christmas album. These are the moments our kids will remember.

So don't put too much pressure on yourself to create what you think is the 'ideal' Christmas. Your kids will love you for whatever you do and you will be so much more relaxed on the big day.
