Face mapping: blush!

Hi pals,

Today's post is all about face mapping. It's been something I've only recently taken the time to explore what face mapping is all about. Ive broken it up into four main face shapes as to not over complicate things. I hope you find this post helpful!

For long face shapes, apply blush on the apples and blend out towards the temples. *Tip: To get a natural lit from within flush for any face shape, first apply a cream blush with a fluffy blush like Hourglass No. 2 Blush Brush (or you can cheat and use your fingers), then apply your foundation as you normally would. Finish off with a powder blush.
LONG face shape

For a long face - apply blush directly onto the apples of your cheeks and blend upwards towards your temples. To make it look more natural you could apply a cream blush first, foundation ontop then top it off with a powder blush. But thats if you really love to wear blush! Otherwise stick to your normal make up routine with blush ontop of your foundation.

For oval faces, apply blush on the apples of the cheeks and blend with a blush brush.

*Tip: For something a little more dramatic, after you've applied foundation and a powder blush, apply a second powder blush using an angled brush like MAC #168. If you get a little crazy with the color, just dust loose powder on your cheek bones to tone it down.
OVAL face shape

For an oval face shape try applying blush to the apples of your cheeks and blending in with your blush brush.

If your after a dramatic look or something for night time. After you have applied blush, apply a second layer of powdered blush with an angled brush.

To slim a round face, apply your blush in an angular motion blending from the apples of the cheeks towards the temples.

*Tip: If you have dry skin or fine lines and wrinkles, try a cream blush. If your skin is oily, stick to powder blush. Powder blush is also better when the temps go up, while cream blush is better for cold weather.
ROUND face

When applying blush to a round face you want to achieve the look of slimming your face out (hense why contouring is so in right now), so again you want to apply your blush on an angular motion from your apples of your cheeks towards your temples.

If your skin is dry, the best type of blush for you to use would be a cream blush. BUT in summer powder blush has more staying power!

For square faces with a stronger jawline, apply your blush in a linear motion a few inches from the sides of your nose.

*Tip: For all day staying power on your night out, apply cream blush as a base then top with a similarly colored powder blush.
SQUARE face

For those of you with a square face you will find that often you have quite a promminent jawline, so you want to apply your blush in a linear motion from your nose. This will elongate your face and take the focus away from the jaw.

I hope this has been helpful! Look out for the next post where we cover a few more face shapes and blush application styles so you look gorgeous!
