2015 Beauty Trends// A Year In Review

2015 has been a busy year when it comes to beauty trends. Contouring, dark lips and strobing are just a few that come up straight away. So seeing as the year is coming to a close lets take a look at some of the most popular trends that we saw. 

• Contouring

Kim Kardashian let us all in on her supposed secret and no it wasn't surgery it was just contouring. By using concealer, highlighter and bronzer you can change the shape of your face in an instant. Contouring became pretty extreme with the start of Clown Contouring in the later half of the year and I think that is just beyond a joke. Nearly every beauty guru on YouTube has done a tutorial on contouring so it's impossible to avoid hearing about it. 

• Dark Lips

With the rise of our own kiwi musician Lorde in the music scene, it's no surprise that the dark look became a totally acceptable colour again this year. Companies quickly caught on to this trend and brought out their own grungy collections including MAC's Dark Desires. Although it may seem like its a trend that got stuck in the nineties this one has found it's feet again in 2015 and im sure we haven't seen the last of it yet. 

• Strobing

When contouring hit the scene people complained that it was just too many products and too much work to do everyday, so our bestie Kim Kardashian let us in on another make up hack called Strobing. Instead of sculpting your face with bronzer then adding all the extras, strobing focussed on highlighting the parts of your face that you wanted to sparkle. See me in depth article on it here. 

• No make up make up

This is such an ironic trend to have but it's one of the better one's. The point of makeup (I think) is to enhance your features so this trend does that perfectly. The no make up make up essentially just focusses on the basics. Mascara, brow's, a little blush and some lip gloss. These are really all you need to enhance your face.

• Brow's on fleeeeeek!

I blame Jaclyn Hill for getting the word's on fleek into our vocabulary! Brow's have been hotter than ever with model's like Cara Delvigne being known for her full brow's. Full brow routine's were implemented by girls everywhere where you primed and brushed your brow's, how you applied your product and even to finish them using concealer. Archers were high and brow's were filled in. I don't think this trend is going anywhere anytime fast!

• Kylie Jenner Makeup

Now I have so much to say and I would prefer not to bring this topic up at all but it's been an undeniable thing. I LOVE the kardashian sisters but Kylie has alot to learn. From her lips that were 'just overdrawn' so girls began to fill their lips in as high as their nose, then how she plumped her lips which had girls sucking in shot glasses and bruising them but still getting no results to admitting she had fillers. Next came the Kylie Jenner lip kit which sold out instantly. Girls around the world had previously brought every MAC Velvet Teddy lipstick that was made and now shes in hot demand for her lip kits. Let's see what Kylie comes out with next year.
