If you follow me on Instagram you would have seen that I was in dire need of a new foundation. I have used literally every last drop of the ten bottles I've had for a few years sitting on my dresser and the most convenient place for me to pick up a foundation to try is at the supermarket.
I noticed that Maybelline had a new cushion foundation out and was super keen to try it. Having not ever used a cushion foundation before but heard great things about them I grabbed this one.
Maybelline Dream Cushion Liquid Foundation in a Compact comes in a small lightweight compact. You get 14.6g / 0.51OZ of product and it has an SPF of 40. In the actual compact the first layer is a small crevice for a sponge with a mirror on the underside of the lid and once you open up the first layer the liquid foundation sits underneath.
The sponge included with the foundation works well and is easy to hold. To release the foundation you simply press down on the underneath cushion part and then using dabbing motions with the sponge you can apply it to your face. A beauty blender also works well.
This foundation is full coverage. I find that for the redder parts of my face if I dab over two layers it has me pretty well covered. Being a full coverage kinda gal this works well for me! However after trailing it for a few weeks I've come to the conclusion that this foundation is good for a good time but not a long time.
I have dry and sensitive skin and if I wear this for anymore than four or five hours I break out in a red rash around my eye area and T-Zone. The product holds super well and there is still so much left on my face when I remove it but again my face breaks out and becomes red, irritated and stings.
Another thing to consider with this foundation is the SPF in it. While that is great to wear makeup that has SPF in, if your going to an event or having photos taken this will affect how you look from the cameras flash. The higher the SPF in your foundation the more whitewashed and ghost like you will look.
Personally I won't be purchasing this again. It is great to wear if your going out for a couple wines in the evening but if you have the same skin type as me then you need to remove it ASAP when your home to avoid breaking out in a rash. I wanted so badly to fall in love with this product but after a few week's I think its safe to say that it's in the no pile.
Do you have any experience with cushion foundations?
Lipstick and love! xx
