Hi beauties!
This year I thought about expanding my blog into a new genre, if you like. As most of you are aware last year I was fortunate to have experience as a bridal stylist and now since my temporary contract is over I have learnt a few things. I have also discovered a passion for bridal and so will aim to bring you a couple post's a month on different bridal topics.
Last year you may remember my post's from my Bridal Bootcamp series. There was one on planning a hens night that includes FREE DOWNLOAD'S , Bridal Shower and Wedding Morning. Go check them out now as you will probably find something in them usefull!
Anyway, let's cut the chit chat and get into five of the most common mistakes made when wedding dress shopping.
1 - Trying on too many dresses
Walking into a bridal boutique can be both exciting and overwhelming.
Generally speaking, from what I have experienced, stores will limit the amount of dresses available for you to try on. This may seem a bit odd but let me explain why. Out of all of the dresses the shop carries, there will be multiple of the same style. There are really only about 5 different styles of dresses and you will subconsciously choose dresses of the same style. If there is one particular dress you really have your heart set on to try then make sure it is known to the consultant.
Trying on so many different dresses will also only confuse you. They will all blur into one in your mind and you won't be making any progress. Don't chose too many and eliminate the one's you don't like. You need to bring your big girl pants and be confident in turning away dresses and styles that you don't like.
2 - Bringing an entourage
The less people you take with you to find your dress the better. Everyone will have a different opinion on the dresses. Even if you have fallen in love with one, one of your friends may be vocal about the dress and that puts doubt in your mind. Another scenario that is quite common is mum like's one dress, you like another, but your maid of honour like's a completely different one! Confused reading that? Imagine how confused you will be when it happens in real life to you!
Anyway, don't you want to keep the suprise element for everyone for the big day!
3 - Sticking with one style
Often we have a style of dress in mind. When I say the word 'Bridal' do you think lace? ballroom? cinderella? When you find dresses in store that resemble what you thinkyou want, you will stick to trying on those dresses. HOWEVER, often trying a style that you think you won't like ends up being one of your most liked dresses. So keep that mind open!
4 - Shopping too late
People are often suprised at just how long wedding dresses take to arrive. You want to ideally start looking 9 - 12 months before the big day. A dress takes about 6 month's to come in when it's ordered and then you need to think about the alterations. Does it need hemming? Are you adding a petticoat? All of these take time and you don't want to run out of it.
5 - Not being open to other styles
Similar to point 3, I can't reitterate it any more. Keep open minded and look for different dresses. You may look bomb as f* in a mermaid style dress, something that you never considered because you always wanted to look like cinderella! If there is one thing you take away from this article it's got to be this point!
Are you getting married this year? What does bridal mean to you?
Lipstick and love,
